| Description | This unit introduces students to the basic concepts of transport policy and decision making, including a look at the make up of the transport sector, relationships between planning, design, decision-making, and policy, the sources of funding for transport, organisation of the transport sector, the nature of decision making, the development of policy, and the relationships among short-term, long-term, and strategic planning. The unit introduces a number of contemporary policy issues, such as congestion, greenhouse gas emissions, global warming, transport and obesity, investment in public transport, road user charging, fuels and peak oil, other environmental impacts of transport, sustainable transport systems, etc. This unit is of particular value to students majoring in transport, logistics, marketing and urban planning. |
