DescriptionThe growth of international trade and the globalisation of production have considerably increased the impact of international and maritime logistics. Trade growth has resulted in a rapid increase of shipping value and tonnage led by containerized trade. Containers and intermodal transportation have improved the efficiency of global supply chains allowing for an efficient, quicker and more economical flow of cargo. This unit is designed to familiarize students with the special characteristics of the maritime industry in general and the container shipping industry in particular. The unit includes topics such as Global trade and maritime logistics, port requirements, port competition, liner alliances, fleet management, routing and scheduling, intermodalism, security, and technology in maritime logistics.
