DescriptionMany organisations are faced with fast-paced change. The ability of organisations to develop effective strategic responses to these changes has become central to their survival and success. While the traditional focus of the academic study of business strategy has been on the formulation process, more contemporary analyses suggest that, in a context of fast paced change, effective strategy is a product of well developed strategic thinking throughout the organisation and the ability to rapidly and effectively implement strategic change. This unit of study, which acts as a capstone unit for students undertaking a Bachelor of Commerce, focuses on these two key issues. The first section of the unit of study revisits some of the core economic concepts introduced to students in their first year of study and examines how they can be used to analyse the strategic challenges facing commercial organisations. The second section of the unit of study focuses on the implementation and management of strategic change. Drawing on research on organisational change and strategy implementation, it provides students with insights into the process of managing strategic change.
