Thomas has many years of experience in senior positions with universities and professional organizations. Prior to this appointment, he was Deputy Director at the School of Professional Education and Executive Development, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. From 2003 to 2005, he was Director of China Program Development, Director of International EMBA program and Adjunct Associate Professor of Accounting at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. During this period, he set up the Business School's Training Centre in Beijing and representative office in Shanghai. From 1998 to 2002, he was founding Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Securities Institute. From 1995 to 1998, he was Director of Education and Training at the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA). He was responsible for the design and implementation of the new HKICPA professional accounting examination.
Thomas received his Master of Accounting Science degree from the University of Illinois and Master of Commerce degree from the University of New South Wales. He is a Fellow Member of HKICPA and CPA Australia. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and Securities Institute of United Kingdom. He is President of CPA Australia (Hong Kong and China Division) for 2007.
With over 25 years of experience in tertiary education, education management and executive training, Thomas began his academic career with the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He later became the Head, Department of Accounting and Law at the Hong Kong Baptist University. In 1988, he was appointed Associate Professor of Accounting at Griffith University. Concurrently, he was Head at School of Accounting, Finance and Legal Studies, as well as Deputy Dean at Faculty of Business and Hotel Management. In addition, Thomas was Adjunct Professor of Accounting at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Thomas currently is Visiting Professor at the Nanjing University of Economics and Finance. He also serves as advisor and committee member for several professional bodies. He is the Director of a listed company.
