Susan Greer became a faculty member in the Discipline of Accounting in the faculty in 2007. Prior to joining the University of Sydney, she was a lecturer in accounting at Macquarie University where, in 2006 she completed a PhD in Accounting. Susan is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
Susan's principal area of research and writing is concerned with unveiling the roles of accounting in the mediation of relations between governments and Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In her PhD Susan showed how accounting language and techniques were integral to historical practices of governing Aboriginal people in New South Wales. Susan has been invited to provide evidence from her research findings in a number of forums, including the Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs Inquiry into Aboriginal Stolen Wages (Unfinished business: Indigenous stolen wages. Canberra: Commonwealth of Australia, 2006).
Susan is also engaged in researching the role of critical and interpretive perspectives on accounting. This research considers the organisation, operation and pedagogical features of social and critical perspectives on accounting both in the classroom and in the wider society.
