Richard Hall's research interests cover a range of areas across work and organisational studies. His recent research has focused on IT systems and organisational change, professional and managerial identities, knowledge management, organisational discourse, new skills in the services sector, temporary agency work and critical approaches to international HRM. Richard is Co-Director of the Organisational Discourse, Strategy and Change group at the University of Sydney, which is affiliated with the International Centre for Research on Organizational Discourse, Strategy and Change. He is also on the editorial board of Australia's leading employment studies journal, the Journal of Industrial Relations. Prior to joining Work and Organisational Studies in 2004, Richard was Deputy Director (Operations) of acirrt, now the Workplace Research Centre, at the University of Sydney.

Richard has been a Chief Investigator on a number of major research projects funded by the Australian Research Council, the International Labour Office, the National Centre for Vocational Education Research and the International Centre for VET Teaching and Learning. He is currently undertaking a major research project funded by the Australian Research Council examining the impact of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP and PeopleSoft, on the organisation of work. He has published in journals including the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science; Work, Employment and Society; Industrial Relations; New Technology; Work and Employment and Economic and Industrial Democracy and his work has also appeared in a number of international collections.

Richard has consulted widely to government agencies, research institutes, employer associations, corporations and unions. He has often been called on to present to business and policy forums, as well as research workshops and briefings. He currently teaches in the areas of organisational change and development, organisational behaviour, the management of technology and human resource management.
