Dr Rae (Rachel) Cooper is Senior Lecturer in Economics and Business at the University of Sydney. Her research on union recognition, workplace bargaining and gender and work has been published in leading international journals. She is a UNSW University Medallist.

Dr Cooper is co-Chair of the Union Strategy research group which brings together Australian and international researchers on collective organisation and collective bargaining.  In 2007 she undertook a major project on the implications of national regulatory change for low paid women, with fellow members of the Women and Work Research Group.

Dr Cooper is Review Editor for the Journal of Industrial Relations. She is an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Industrial Relations as well as the journal Labour History and is an Executive member of the Association of Industrial Relations Academics of Australia and New Zealand (AIRAANZ).

She was a delegate to the Prime Minister's 2008 '2020 Summit' on the 'Productivity Agenda' panel.

Dr Cooper is Board Director for the NSW Rural Assistance Authority. She is a member of the NSW Premier's Council for Women and has previously served as the Chair of the NSW Working Women's Centre. She is a a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

In 2008 / 2009 she was a visiting scholar at two North American Universities, the University of California, Berkeley and at the Harvard Law School.

Dr Cooper uses her research expertise to consult for a number of major organisations and regularly advises policy makers on workplace matters. She teaches Employment Relations, HR and Management.
