Nigel Finch's current research areas are creative accounting, security valuation, asset impairment, and financial disclosures made under the application of fair value accounting principles. In particular, his research has examined the contemporary practice of goodwill impairment testing under IFRS, an area where he has published more than 30 scholarly articles.
Nigel Finch is the joint founding editor of the Journal of Applied Research in Accounting and Finance and along with Jonathon Berk, Peter DeMarzo and Guy Ford is co-author of the forthcoming Fundamentals of Corporate Finance (Pearson Education)
Prior to joining the Faculty, he was a lecturer in management at Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM), where he was also Director of Admissions. Prior to joining academia, he worked as a financial controller for both public and private companies, operating in the manufacturing, entertainment, media and financial services industries, and subsequently as an investment manager specialising in Australian growth stocks for institutional investment funds.
Nigel Finch is an accountant in public practice and an adviser to several leading businesses and industry groups. He is a member of the advisory committee of the National Institute of Accountants Faculty of Small Business, and a director of several private companies. His professional qualifications include senior associate of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia, a member of the National Institute of Accountants, and a fellow of both the Taxation Institute of Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
