Giuseppe Carabetta's research expertise lies in the field of employment and industrial law. He is recognised as the leading scholar in Australian police labour relations law.
Giuseppe's research has prompted the Australian police unions, and in particular the Police Federation of Australia (PFA), to review the legal status of their 50,000 police members and has led to an ongoing collaborative relationship with the PFA. In 2005 he was involved in discussions between the PFA and the former Federal Government over the proposed workplace law reforms. He has worked on numerous PFA submissions to Government including submissions to the Senate Inquiry into the Workplace Relations Amendment (Work Choices) Bill 2005 and the Williams National Industrial Relations Inquiry 2007. Earlier this year he met with the Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon Julia Gillard MP, on behalf of the PFA to discuss a proposal for the development of a best-practice police employment law model. He was recently also invited to present his research at the University of Bologna, Italy.
Giuseppe has been nominated for and won numerous teaching awards at the University of Sydney including the Inaugural School of Business Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Faculty's Wayne Lonergan Outstanding Teaching Award, and most recently the highly prestigious Vice-Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Teaching.
Giuseppe has also published under the name Joseph Carabetta.
