Brenda is a graduate of the University of Sydney, the University of Paris-Sorbonne, the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and Sydney Institute of Technology-TAFE NSW. Her first job after finishing the HSC was with a travelling circus and, paradoxically, years later she co-founded (with a community theatre colleague) a clowning troupe, Clowns on Toast. After completing her Honours degree at the University of Sydney - with double majors in French Language/Literature and Art History/Philosophy, she was awarded a French Government scholarship for her post-graduate research in Semiology and International Theatre at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, where she completed her Maîtrise- ès-Lettres (Masters) by research + thesis, followed by the Diplôme d'Études Approfondies (DEA) which required another thesis by research (and sanctioned the first half of a then Doctoral degree). Brenda's early career was in social justice and further education with disadvantaged target groups including refugees, women, migrants and geographically isolated, including Aboriginal communities in Boggabilla, Collarenebri and Moree. Her career in post-secondary education evolved to educational policy and planning, line management, then human resources management - and, until embarking on her PhD research in March 2005, she had her own consulting practice. Brenda's current professional background includes comprehensive experience in human resources management, specialising in human resources strategies and remuneration consulting, with broad 'generalist' experience.
