Description

Management is the process of planning, organising, leading and controlling the efforts of organisational members and using resources inside and outside the organisation to achieve set objectives. A Management major draws on subjects from a number of disciplines in the Faculty and develops a sound understanding of managing the internal processes of organisations and the relationship between organisations and their environments.

Requirements for the major

Students intending to complete a major in Management must complete two prerequisite junior units of study (12 credit points) selected from the following:

For a major in Management, students must complete a minimum of 36 credit points in senior units of study, comprising:
  1. One compulsory unit of study (six credit points):
  2. At least five elective units of study (30 credit points) selected from the following:

Please Note:

  1. All units of study marked with an "*" will NOT be offered for 2009 enrolments.
  2. The selection of senior elective units of study depends on whether the student has completed the prerequisites for these units of study. Some of these elective units of study require the completion of additional prerequisites outside of those units of study listed for this major.
  3. # From 2008, Government and International Relations will be part of the Faculty of Arts. All GOVT units will be considered as Arts units of study for students commencing in 2008. Students enrolled in the combined Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws or the Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Laws from 2008 cannot complete any GOVT units as part of their major because they are restricted to completing only units from Economics and Business and Law for their degree.

Requirements for the extended major

To obtain an extended major in Management , students must complete the following units of study (including 48 credit points in senior units of study):

  1. All the compulsory units listing under the Management major (see above), and
  2. At least seven (7) senior units of study (42 credit points) selected from the elective units of study listing under the Management major (those listed under point (ii) above).

Pre-2006 students

Students who commenced their degree prior to 2006 may complete the following to qualify for a major in Management:

  1. Two (2) junior (1000-level ) WORK, GOVT or ECON coded units of study
  2. A minimum of 32 credit points of senior (2000 or 3000 level) units of study in Management (including WORK2001/2201 Foundations of Management).

The International Business major is an available option in the following degrees offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business:

Students in the following degree administered by the Faculty of Arts also have the option of completing a major in International Business :

An International Business major or electives in this area may also be available to students enrolled in other degrees in the University. Students should check the other faculty's course information for further details.
