Description | This major offers interdisciplinary study within a sector that is critical to the economy, to business and to lifestyle. Transport management provides an opportunity for students to see how the integrated use of analytical skills in economics, statistics, planning, engineering, human resource and operations management combine to define the workings of a major industry sector. The focus of the units of study is on relevance to both the private and public sectors, with a coverage of all modes of transport (aviation, shipping, and land based transport such as bus, conventional and high speed rail, automobile use, non-motorised modes). Students will gain skills in strategic thinking, policy planning, the application of analytical tools such as geographic information systems, global positioning systems (intelligent transport), discrete choice modelling and stated choice methods. Exposure to elements of transport economics, traffic engineering, transport planning and the way that transport is integrated with land use and environment policy and planning makes this major popular with students seeking a double major with most of the other majors.
