Description

Core units in areas such as corporate finance and financial strategy provide a rich set of insights into financial, competitive and corporate strategies for enhancing cash-flow. The course ensures that graduates are well armed with an understanding of the foundations of strategy, which come from the ‘Game Theory’. The focus is towards an understanding of the complexities of modern risk management as well as the fundamentals and technical tools for all aspects of finance in a global setting. The core units cover broking and market making, advanced asset pricing, portfolio theory and applications, derivatives securities, international business finance, fixed interest securities and financial statement analysis, as well as the applications of high level financial theory to understanding mergers and acquisitions and the international market.

Requirements for the major

Students who intend to complete a major in Finance must complete the foundation level unit of study FINC5001 Capital Markets and Corporate Finance as a prerequisite for the major.

For a Finance major, students must complete four elective units of study (24 credit points) from the following: (At least three of these electives must be FINC coded units of study):

Please Note: FINC5001 is the prerequisite for most of the FINC units of study within this major. For FINC6019, the unit of study FINC6000 is required to be completed as a prerequisite.

This version of this major is available under the Master of Commerce, Master of Commerce and Master of Facilities Management, Master of Commerce and Master of Logistics Management, Master of Commerce and Master of Professional Accounting, Master of International Business and Master of Commerce and Master of Transport Management and Master of Commerce.

Students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Commerce or the Master of Professional Accounting may choose units from this major subject area as electives in their course.
