Description

The Business Statistics major is designed to produce graduates with skills that can realise the profit potential of data. It is intended for students who have a primary interest in the analysis of data, as well as for those wishing to develop their analytical skills in the primary areas of economics, marketing, finance or accounting. Students may be seeking skills for use within current employment areas, or for understanding current research reports; or they may be looking towards future employment in analysis. The core of the Business Statistics major comprises a skills unit and a general applications unit. The electives allow students to pursue advanced study in specific high profile areas of analysis including modelling methods, applied choice models for marketing, applied financial econometrics, applied forecasting, and modelling for management.

Requirements for the major

Students who intend to complete a major in Business Statistics must complete the foundation level unit of study ECMT5001 Principles of Econometrics as a prerequisite for the major:

To obtain a Business Statistics major, students must complete four elective units of study (24 credit points) from the following:

• ECMT6006 Applied Financial Econometrics
• ECMT6007 Panel Data Econometrics

• ECMT6510 Management Decision Making
• ECMT6901 Econometric Modelling

Please note:

1. The units of study marked with "*" will NOT be available for 2009 enrolments.
2. The foundation level unit of study ECMT5001 is the prerequisite unit for all the ECMT units of study in this major.

Availability of this major

This version of this major is available under the Master of Commerce, Master of Commerce and Master of Facilities Management, Master of Commerce and Master of Logistics Management, Master of Commerce and Master of Professional Accounting, Master of International Business and Master of Commerce and Master of Transport Management and Master of Commerce.

Students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Commerce or the Master of Professional Accounting may choose units from this major subject area as electives in their course.
