Description

This major offers interdisciplinary study to an advanced level in the field of strategy and management. The major exposes students to key conceptual and theoretical foundations needed to understand the process of strategy development in organisations. It allows students to combine this foundational knowledge with a variety of specialised strategy related units of study drawn from disciplines across the Faculty. Students can choose to focus on a particular aspect of strategy and management or examine a cross section of functional aspects of strategy and the connections between them. Units of study in this major focus on strategic aspects of a wide variety of functions in the organisation including human resource management, marketing, finance and supply chain management, as well as providing the opportunity for students to explore the impact of different contexts on various aspects of strategy. Students can also explore economic aspects of business strategy and the connections between strategic management and organisational change. The major is relevant to students from a variety of fields with an interest in making a significant contribution to the strategic direction of organisations. It also provides background relevant to employment in the management consulting industry.

The Master of Business program, including this major, is only available to continuing students and will except no new enrolments from Semester 2, 2008.

Requirements for the major

To obtain a Strategic Management major, students must complete four units of study (24 credit points), comprising:

  1. one compulsory unit of study (six credit points):
