Getting started
Consultation rooms and facilities
You may be asked to schedule time to consult with your students. Please speak with your unit co-ordinator to obtain details of your responsibilities. There are 3 consultation rooms in the Merewether Building H04 - 178, 179, 180 - made available for this purpose. Your unit coordinator may arrange other options as well. There are tutors' facilities in the Storie Dixson Building H10 rooms 343 and 344. These rooms contain desks and computers, and can be used for class preparation or consultation. Room 346 of Storie Dixon is a tea room containing a kitchen with fridge, microwave, cutlery and crockery.
Room bookings are made via Ruth Williams. You can check availability via the Faculty's Outlook email system (Public folder/room bookings).
Email and Blackboard login
Email and Blackboard accounts for tutors are created after a Request for Computer Account (RCA) forms have been sent to Faculty IT from each discipline. Please speak with your unit co-ordinator about this. The RCA form covers the tutor's email address, computer account login and Blackboard login. It can take up to 3 working days for the accounts to be created. Casual tutors then come to the IT helpdesk counter (room 118 Economics and Business Building, H69) with some form of identification (license, contract, student card) and we give them their details.
The IT Helpdesk can be contacted on 935 15409 or helpdesk@econ.usyd.edu.au. Please note the current security policy is that login details will not be given over the phone or by email.
Some unit co-ordinators will require you to work in the unit of study Blackboard site as part of your duties. In order to do this, you must have the above account, and you must be enrolled in the unit of study site itself. Your unit co-ordinator will decide what level of access you require (tutor or student). Your unit co-ordinator should arrange this (via the Blackboard Application to Activate Form). If your unit coordinator requires assistance with this, they can contact the eLearning Helpdesk.
If you have any queries or would like an introduction to Blackboard, you can contact the eLearning Helpdesk with quick questions or to arrange an appointment.
