Peer Mentoring Program for Undergraduate Students
Find out everything you need to know to settle into your course in the Faculty of Economics and Business as quickly as possible.
How?
Join the Peer Mentoring Program.
This FREE program is recommended for all students new to the Faculty of Economics and Business.
You can register online or at enrolment in July and on Faculty Orientation Day, Monday 20 July.
How will this program help me?
The Undergraduate Peer Mentoring Program will help you to:
- meet other new students studying in the same courses as you
- get advice and guidance from a senior student who becomes your mentor for the first 3 weeks of semester
- take part in free Faculty-sponsored social activities with fellow students
- build networks to support and encourage each other and share information
- make the most of your experience of university life
- an online forum is provided so you can stay in regular contact with others in the program
What will my mentor do?
Your mentor will be a more senior student who will help you to settle in by:
- giving you information about all the services on campus (e.g. using your university email account, buying second-hand books, finding a place on campus to eat, using the bus service, and lots more)
- helping you with study-related questions (e.g. information on specific classes, using the library, how to get academic assistance, etc.)
- organising mentoring group activities and introducing you to other students
- inviting you to social events
- giving you general information about life in Sydney
- providing a "sounding board" - someone you can talk to about your experiences and studies
Your mentor will not:
- be your tutor
- give you academic advice
What am I committing to?
To gain the most from the mentoring program you are strongly encouraged to:
- attend the Mentoring Program Launch at Faculty Orientation,
- to meet your mentor and the other new students in your mentoring group (about 5 students per group)
- stay in regular contact for the first 3 weeks of semester
- meet face-to-face with your mentor and the group at least three times in the first 3 weeks of semester.
You can register online or at enrolment in July and on Faculty Orientation Day, Monday 20 July.
