Lecture- and Desktop-Recording

The University is rolling out new lecture- and desktop-recording facilities, offering opportunities for academics to record whole lectures or short presentations from teaching spaces and their desktop computers. These presentations can then be made available to students through their Blackboard site/s (via the Lectopia delivery system).

Some general information that you might find helpful:

Sydney eLearning and the University's AV Services often runs training sessions about desktop recording (or desktop capture) and lecture recording (or lecture streaming). Register via the Sydney eLearning Online Registrations page (unikey login required).

Lecture Recording

There are two ways to record lectures in teaching spaces across the University: Lectopia: using Lectopia capture and delivery (fully automated), or Echo360: using Echo360 desktop recording in a teaching space and Lectopia delivery.

Lectopia

  1. Check to see if your venues have been enabled with the fully-automated Lectopia capture system.
  2. Make sure you have scheduled your unit of study times/dates with Lectopia for it to be recorded (and don't forget to turn the microphone on on the day).
  3. Check the Sydney eLearning Online Registrations page (unikey login required) to see if there is training available on using Lectopia and the Lectopia Staff Tool. If you have any questions about using the Lectopia Staff Tool, contact Lectopia Support.
  4. Add a Lectopia Link in Blackboard.

Echo360 

  1. If your teaching space has not yet had the fully automated Lectopia system installed, use Echo360 to record your lecture instead.

  2. Make sure you have scheduled your unit of study with Lectopia so that your recorded lecture can be linked to your Blackboard site (via Lectopia delivery).

Desktop Recording

Use Echo360 from your desktop to record a presentation (audio-only or audio and screen) to deliver to your students through your Blackboard site (via Lectopia delivery).

Echo360: 2009 - ongoing

  1. Contact Faculty IT to have the Echo360 software installed on your computer.
  2. Make sure you have scheduled your unit of study with Lectopia so that your recorded presentation can be linked to your Blackboard site (via Lectopia delivery).
  3. Make sure you have either a built-in or stand alone microphone or microphone headset.
  4. Record your presentation.
