Faculty Support for Teaching Qualifications
The Faculty will support staff who undertake the ITL Graduate Certificate in Higher Education in the following ways:
- Teaching relief: up to 3 tutorial hours per week for each semester
- A copy of the set texts is made available on loan
The Faculty will strategically prioritise participation as places are limited. Interested staff should contact the ITL. The ITL finalises enrolments late November, for the following year.
The Faculty will consider supporting staff who undertake graduate certificates in university teaching offered by other universities. Each case will be considered on its own merits. The support available for staff undertaking the University of Sydney certificate will also usually apply.
There is now evidence that performance on the Scholarship Index is statistically correlated with improvements in students' experiences as demonstrated on the Student Course Experience Questionnaire (SCEQ) good teaching, appropriate assessment, generic skills, clear goals and standards scales and on students' overall course experiences (Brew & Ginns, 2008). Preliminary data suggests that qualifications in teaching and learning in higher education are significantly related to students' experiences.
