India in the global market: Opportunities and challenges for Australian firms
The 21st century poses more difficult challenges for managers than ever before. In particular, it is a huge challenge to start operations in different countries and manage across diverse cultures in increasingly complex business environments. India is now being seen as the next economic giant offering tremendous opportunities for business. Prime Minister John Howard said on his recent visit to India that the links between Australia and India 'stand on the threshold of greater depth and greater expansion in the years ahead'. A sizzling economy, a technological revolution, cost attractiveness and a high level of intellectual human capital makes India a very attractive destination for Australian investment. India has now overtaken the UK to become Australia?s sixth largest export market. Bilateral trade with India currently stands at more than $7 billion.
To understand what the Indian market is like, the challenges of doing business in India, and the key to successful business strategies, we have put together eminent panels of academicians and industry leaders to help answer questions you may have regarding doing business in India. This is your opportunity to share the knowledge and experience of the experienced panels when they address the topic and share with you their thoughts on the HOW and WHY of investing in India.

Growing into India: the Entrepreneurial Challenge
For the first time in 2008, the Discipline of International Business will be taking Problem Based Learning one step further by taking students onsite to Bangalore, India to learn about the country's entrepreneurial challenges.
The Summer School Unit of Study entitled "Growing into India:The Entrepreneurial Challenge" introduces students to the issues and challenges facing the entrepreneur or manager who is growing a business in India. Over the two-week intensive program located in Bangalore, India, students will develop a business entry strategy for the Indian market. Central to this study program is the integration of theory and practice through workshop sessions, site visits, and talks from professionals. As well as exploring the business environment, the program integrates cultural, social and environmental issues. This program is of interest for those intending, or working, internationally in 'big' business as well as smaller entrepreneurial enterprises. The first week is to be held at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). The second week will be held at Infosys. The program will involve the completion of a special project report requiring independent research as well as on-site field work.
