Joe Fai Poon

Institute of Transport and Logistic Studies
Joe Fai Poon commenced his PhD at the Institute of Transport and Logistic Studies six months ago and is an international student. He is tentatively exploring the area of travel information. "Although I am trained as an engineer, I have always been intrigued by economic issues, in particular, the behaviour of members of society under the influence of transport policies".
Joe Fai completed an undergraduate degree in Civil and Structural Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore then completed a Masters of Transport, Imperial College and University College, London. He has worked in the Ministry of Defence in Singapore as a civil engineer as part of his national service and for the Land Transport Authority before coming to Australia.
"My main motivation to undertake a PhD in the Faculty of Economics and Business was the quality of research in the Faculty and in particular, the Institute of Transport and Logistic Studies with its internationally renowned academic staff on transport management. I attended the Faculty Research Induction Program (FRIP) which exposed me, for the first time, to the wide array of research approaches and perspectives and provided invaluable advice on facing the challenges along the PhD journey.
Academic life in the Faculty has been a happy experience for me with the friendly and supportive people, the intellectual buzz and vibrancy and the flexibility to pursue my academic activities coupled with the rigour instilled by the research program and supervision".
Joe is supervised by Peter Stopher.
