Discipline of Marketing

Christina completed a BEc at the University of Sydney with First Class Honours and the University Medal. With her supervisor she has recently been awarded an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant with Post-Doctoral Fellowship (examining how gamblers use previous gambling episodes to motivate decisions to replay).

"I really enjoy tackling complex problems and undertaking a PhD in the Faculty of Economics and Business was an opportunity to invest my creative energy into designing experiments that address relevant consumer issues. I find it interesting to observe how the story unfolds from the data.

The PhD program offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business is well organised and truly committed to bettering the development of candidates, the Discipline, and the University as a whole. There is continual effort and time invested in designing programs that help foster stronger research skills and provide candidates with access to leaders in the field both on campus and at international conferences.

My research interests include examining the affective evaluations of consumption outcomes and counterfactual thinking processes. By helping marketers better understand the feelings associated with outcomes that have been achieved using a deceptive strategy, better communication and relationship strategies can be developed.

The facilities offered by the Faculty are world-class. The Faculty has a Postgraduate Research Centre that provides students with individual workspaces and offices, access to technological and scholarly resources, kitchen, lounge area. The Centre allows for interaction between students across disciplines, a microcosmos of sorts mirroring the multidisciplinary nature of what University research should be.

As I draw towards the end of my PhD, I have only positive memories and sentiments. The journey has been more than worth the while. My supervisor has been a true inspiration, and I am very grateful for all the opportunities I have been presented with along the way."
