Event : New Realities @ Work : 2007 WRC Roadshow

Tue 16th Oct 2007 to Mon 29th Oct 2007

The Workplace Research Centre Annual Roadshow this year will outline and debate the findings arising from the just released Australia @ Work study of 8,343 workers. We have data on over 450 workers on AWAs, as well as comprehensive information on all other aspects of agreements, wages, hours of work, employee attitudes and the reality of unionism at workplace level. The briefing session will involve an outline of key findings from Dr Brigid van Wanrooy (the project leader) and Dr John Buchanan. This will be followed by commentary and debate by leading employer, union and government officials.

The afternoon session will cover developments in enterprise agreements based on our Lowering the Standards report. Much of this session will draw on our recently released study of all major retail and hospitality agreements registered under Work Choices in 2006. A summary and commentary on our findings will be provided by the project leader, Justine Evesson and Dr John Buchanan. In addition, leading officials will comment on the significance of our findings and their assessment of the outlook for bargaining in the next 12 months.

These briefings will be of relevance no matter who wins the next election. They will be especially useful for any one needing to know how the labour market evolving and especially how workers and the agreements governing them are being transformed. It will be especially relevant to those interested in issues such as:

  • wages and wage movements
  • hours of work
  • skill formation
  • work and family balance
  • living standards generally
  • labour market transitions involving the unemployed, the employed workforce and those negotiating new agreements.
