Event : World Class Practices in Management Education: Meeting the Needs of Global Business

From 30th October to 1st November 2005, the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Sydney will host the AACSB International World Class Practices in Management Education Conference. This conference will bring together information about the most effective practices in management education, with sessions designed specifically to capture the unique aspects of business education throughout the Asia Pacific region.

The conference theme, Meeting the Needs of Global Business, will provide a platform for dynamic sessions, presented by thought-leaders from the academic, business and professional communities. A wide range of topics will be covered, including the role of business education and accreditation in today’s globalised society; the competitive landscape of business education; assuring management educators identify and meet the needs of global business; and the development of effective strategic alliances.

The Faculty is delighted to have secured a number of key national and international speakers:

  • Mr David Murray will speak on the “Role of Business Education in a Globalized Society – A Business Perspective.” Mr Murray was CEO of the Commonwealth Bank – one of Australia’s top 10 listed corporations – from June 1992 until mid September 2005, and his career has spanned corporate finance, strategic planning and retail executive management.

  • Ms Heather Ridout is an economics graduate of the University of Sydney and Chief Executive of the Australian Industry Group, a not-for-profit association which assists Australian industry to become more competitive both domestically and internationally. Ms Ridout will addressing the question “What Are the Needs of Global Business? A Business Perspective”.

  • Professor K.C. Chan, Dean of the School of Business and Management at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology will be discussing “China’s Evolving Role as a Regional and Global Provider of MBAs”.

  • Dr Marvin Cetron is a plenary speaker on Tuesday 1 November and will be talking to the topic “20:20 Vision - Looking to the Future”. Dr Cetron is the founder and president of Forecasting International and is one of world’s foremost futurists and technological forecasters.
