Globalization and Income Inequality: Who are the gainers and who are the losers?

The worldwide elimination of trade barriers, as well as other social phenomena like the end of the communist era, led the way to many emerging markets for the corporations of the industrial countries. By off-shoring their manufacturing, and many other support operations, firms managed to optimize their business processes beyond national borders. Companies exploited economies of scale in the long run but who are the greatest gainers from globalization? Are these the consumers? Are these the host countries that provide cheaper resources? Are these the multi-billon dollar corporations posting double, or triple digit profits?

Associate Professor Dilip Dutta (primary supervisor) and Dr Mark Melatos (secondary supervisor) are supervising this project.
