Government and International Relations (Faculty of Arts) (Undergraduate)

Description

Government and International Relations is one of the largest academic groups within the Faculty of Arts, offering a range of units in areas such as:international relations and international business; the state and organisation of economic activity; communist and post-communist systems; Asia and the Pacific; Australian politics; Australian foreign and defence policy; American politics; public policy and public management; international security; human rights; political institutions; and political theory. Units offered by the Department of Government and International Relations are available to all students, subject to award course requirements.

Requirements for the major

Students intending to complete a major in Government and International Relations must complete:

  • two prerequisite junior (1000-level) 'GOVT' units of study (12 credit points) selected the options specified under the Government and International Relations major in the Faculty of Arts Handbook.

To obtain a major in Government and International Relations, students must complete:

  • a minimum of 36 credit points in senior (2000 and 3000-level) 'GOVT' units of study selected the options specified under the Government and International Relations major in the Faculty of Arts Handbook. *

* Note. The Faculty of Arts allows students to complete a maximum of 12 credit points in cross listed non-'GOVT' units from other departments are part of this major. For details of the available cross-listed units, students should refer to the Faculty of Arts website.

Pre-2006 students

Students who commenced their degree prior to 2006 may complete the following to qualify for a major in Government and International Relations:

  1. Two 'GOVT' junior (1000-level) units of study
  2. A minimum of 32 credit points of senior (2000 or 3000 level) units of study in Government and International Relations.

Availability of this major

The Government and International Relations major is available as a second required major under the Bachelor of Commerce (Liberal Studies).
