Professional accreditation in accounting (Undergraduate)
Description
Completion of an accredited degree is a recognised pathway to a career in professional accounting. The Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Economics and have been accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
Requirements for accreditation
To meet minimum accreditation requirements of these organisations, students must complete the following units of study:
- Seven compulsory Accounting units of study (42 credit points):
- Three compulsory Commercial Law units of study (18 credit points):
- CLAW1001 Foundations of Business Law (formerly titled 'Commercial Transactions A' in 2009)
- CLAW2201 Corporations Law
- CLAW3201 Australian Taxation System
- One compulsory Finance unit of study (six credit points):
For CPA Australia accreditation, students must also complete the following additional four (4) units of study (24 credit points):
- ECMT1010 Business and Economic Statistics A * #
- ECON1001 Introductory Microeconomics * #
- ECON1002 Introductory Macroeconomics * #
- INFS2001 IS for Performance Improvement (formerly titled 'Business Information Systems' in 2009)
Please Note:
- The units of study marked with an "*" are core units of study in the Bachelor of Commerce and the units marked with an "#" are core units in the Bachelor of Economics.
- From 2004, CPA Australia has allowed students the option of completing auditing and taxation units of study as part of their degree at university or as
Accreditation Variations for Combined Law Degree Students
For students in the combined Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws program, the following LAWS units of study maybe substituted for the 'CLAW' units of study to meet CPA and ICAA requirements:
- For CLAW1001 Commercial Transactions A : LAWS1006 Foundations of Law and LAWS1002 Contracts or LAWS1015 Contracts
- For CLAW2201 Corporations Law : LAWS2003 Corporations Law
- For CLAW3201 Australian Taxation System : LAWS3047 Personal Taxation and LAWS3013 Business Taxation

Availability of this program
The professional accreditation in accounting program is an available option in the following degrees offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business:
- Bachelor of Commerce
- Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts
- Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws
- Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science
- Bachelor of Commerce (Liberal Studies)
- Bachelor of Economics
Students in the following degrees administered by the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies also have the option of completing a major in professional accreditation in accounting:
- Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce
- Bachelor of Information Technology and Bachelor of Commerce
An professional accreditiaion in accounting program or electives in this area may also be available to students enrolled in other degrees in the University. Students should check the other faculty's course information for further details.
