Governance Major (Master of Commerce and combined Master of Commerce programs)

Description

Governance involves the integrity and effectiveness of institutions in society, focusing especially but not exclusively on the functioning of the public sector. This major will examine central aspects of governance in the public, corporate and community sectors. It will examine what aspects of institutional structures and the environments in which they operate contribute to effective governance. It will be particularly useful for those wishing to pursue careers in the public and community sectors, and those wanting to examine how governance is central to economic and social sustainability.

Please Note: This major will NOT be available in 2009/2010. Continuing (Pre-2009 commencing) students may complete this major following the requirements set out below or in the Handbook of the year they commenced their degree.

Requirements for the major

For continuing (pre-2009 commencing) students to complete a Governance major, they must complete four units of study (24 credit points), comprising:

  2. All 'GOVT' units of study are offered through the Department of Government and International Relations, Faculty of Arts. All 'USSC' coded units of study are offered the United States Studies Centre.

Availability of this major

This version of this major is only available to continuing students (pre-2009 commencing) under the

Students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Commerce or the Master of Professional Accounting may choose units from this major subject area as electives in their course.
