Entrepreneurship Major (Master of Commerce and combined Master of Commerce programs)
Description
This major offers interdisciplinary study to an advanced level in the field of entrepreneurship. The major exposes students to key conceptual and theoretical foundations needed to understand the process of launching a new venture, with particular emphasis on international aspects of new venture creation and management. It allows students to combine this foundation knowledge with a variety of specialised units of study drawn from disciplines from across the Faculty. Units of study in this major focus on key components of the entrepreneurial process relating to marketing, the law, finance, management and international business. The major is relevant to students from a variety of fields with an interest in the entrepreneurial process. It also provides background relevant to working as or for an entrepreneur, and key stakeholders such as policy makers, venture capitalists, and advisors.
Requirements for the major
Students who intend to complete a major in entrepreneurship must complete the following foundation level (core) unit of study as the prerequsite for the major:
To obtain an Entrepreneurship major, students must complete four units of study (24 credit points), selected from the following:
- FINC6017 Mergers and Acquisitions
- IBUS6007 International Business Special Project
- IBUS6012 International Entrepreneurship
- IBUS6013 Entrepreneurial Restructuring and Renewal
- IBUS6014 Intellectual Property Management
- IBUS6015 Innovation and Enterprise Special Project
- IBUS6016 Social Entrepreneurship
- IBUS6017 Enterprise and the Creative Industries
- IBUS6018 Business Negotiations (new unit for 2010)
- MKTG6004 New Product Development
- MKTG6013 International and Global Marketing
Please Note:
- The units listed above are those units which are being offered for the current year only. For details of units of study that available as electives in this major, please refer to the Faculty handbook.
- The foundation level unit of study, MKTG5001, is the prerequisite for all of the 'MKTG' units of study within this major. For other non-'IBUS' units of study other prerequisites may apply.
