The Careers Guide gives students comprehensive information on internship and graduate application processes.
  • The Internships BBQ. Highly popular event, gave students the opportunity to speak with employers in a relaxed, informal setting.

Commerce Revue Society First ever Commerce Revue! Significant Faculty contribution the running costs and theatre hire at the Seymour Centre. The Commerce Revue includes 50 cast and crew from the Faculty of Economics and Business. It gives those involved a variety of skills in not only performance, but theatre production, including business development, promotion, recruitment and accounting. 15-17th October, 2008
The Economics Society (EcoSoc)
  1. First ever Economics and Econometrics Careers Guide! Faculty contribution to both printing costs and launch for the Careers Guide. Launch includes industry representatives from RBA, ABARE, Allen Consulting Group.
  2. Two academic debate/discussion type events. The first invited RBA head of Economic Analysis, Tony Richards and the second, the Head of the China Free Trade Agreement Task Force, along with Department of Foreign Affairs representatives and academics. Events gave Economics and Business students the chance to debate issues along with industry and academic representatives.

The Financial Management Association of Australia (FMAA) Continued faculty support towards three professionally organised events put on by FMAA each year. The events are:
  1. The Graduate Corporate Cocktails
  2. The financial Services Info Evening
  3. The &squo;Down to Business Luncheon?
The events give Economics and Business students a chance to meet with industry representatives in more intimate settings and ask questions, discuss their interests and get to know more about the field of Finance.

180 degrees (new Social Innovation Society) Faculty contribution to ?start up? for this new Society?s website development, towards their hosting of the inaugural social entrepreneurship schools competition and to purchase essential merchandise2008 start up
Young Entrepreneurs Society (YES)

Faculty contribution towards the Business Strategy Workshop held in August 2007. Involved Bain and Co giving students the opportunity to learn about management consultancy. August 2007, Faculty contributing gap funds.
Affiliated
Australia-Asia Youth Business Council (AYBC) New initiative; faculty sponsored AYBC?s involvement in Young Achievement Australia (YAA). Business Skills program for young people to develop and sell product and business skills associated this. Faculty staff member involved as mentor. 2008
AIESEC
  1. Part sponsorship of AIESEC?s July National Conference, hosted by AIESEC at the University of Sydney this year. Costs contributed towards accommodation at YMCA camp site at Richmond. Faculty joined in the Partner Fair (1 day) during the conference which helped the Faculty in return, through promotion of post graduate degrees and create more networks for faculty.
  2. Some funding towards AIESEC?e Developing Leaders Day. The day gave Economics and Business students the chance to attend seminars run by General Electric, Proctor and Gamble, Electrolux, providing training in leadership, management and personal effectiveness.

Politics society (PolSoc). Faculty contribution to the society in recognition of continuing Government and International Relations students within the Faculty, but also of the ongoing importance of political debate and discussion to Economics and Business students. Contribution to three events/activities:

  1. Venue hire and catering for evening lecture series. Three speakers including, Dr Dennis Phillips (Professor, Government and International Relations), Izzat Abdulhadi (Head of General Delegation of Palestine to Aust, NZ and the Pacfiic) and Kamal Fadel (Representative of Polisario, independence movement for Western Sahara) and Senator Natasha Stott Despoja.
  2. Honours (Gov and IR) BBQ
  3. Website Development.

Sydney University Chinese Students Association (SUCSA). Faculty funding to cover venue hire and catering for SUCSA?s ?New Member Information Session?. The Society provided new international students with an overview of the types of support and services they offer members, with representation from Faculty staff. 6th March, 2008.
Sydney University United Nations Society. Faculty contribution towards Economics and Business students? conference admission fee for the Asia Pacific Model United Nations Conference (AMUNC), 2008. Conference held in Adelaide this year, open to students from Australasian region and engages students in debate, lobbying and resolution writing on issues of international relevance.
Also, faculty contribution to Economics and Business students attending the Sydney University United Nations Model Conference (SydMun). Helps students develop skills required for AMUNC and also gives more University of Sydney students the opportunity to be involved.
Faculty contribution to venue hire for SysMun. Schools based Model UN Conference, bringing high school students on to campus to take part in model United Nations Conference.

85 Broads New university wide society, developing business, leadership and entrepreneurial skills in young women. Based in New York with chapters around the world in universities.
Faculty sponsorship of five Economics and Business students to attend 85 Broads Information Session/Workshiop to develop business/leadership skills in women.: 3 day career immersion.

Grant money
The Sydney Globalist magazine. Faculty contribution (in recognition of continuing Government and International Relations students) to printing of magazine. Magazine is student based with editorial staff drawn from students and articles written by students. Two issues published in 2008. Semester 1 and 2, 2008.
WorldMun Internationally organised Model United Nations Conference. Five Economics and Business students sponsored to attend through Faculty contribution to travel and conference admission fee. Students performed very well with delegate awards. Held in Mexico in 2008. See student report on clubs and societies website March-April, 2008.
Youth Leadership Conference in Prague. Bi annual conference in Prague, provides students with exposure to simulated UN type conferences with key diplomats involved and skill development. Site visits to UN offices. A good exchange opportunity for those interested in debate, broad international relations experience. January 2008 and July 2008
