Students gain an understanding of the theoretical basis and design requirements of the main qualitative and quantitative approaches to research, as well as the techniques of questionnaire design, interviewing, observation and documentary analysis. There is an emphasis on the development of methodological expertise relevant to the students anticipated dissertation topic and the preparation of a viable research proposal.
