Description This unit deals with taxation issues in a business environment. In addition to income tax, the Goods and Services Tax is studied. The following topics are included: trading stock, capital allowances, taxation of partnerships and trusts including the application of capital gains tax to interests in these entities, carry forward of losses, taxation of companies, dividend imputation tax, capital gains tax application to shares and other interests in companies, intellectual property, collection of income tax instalments, amendment of assessments, objections and appeals, taxation of non-residents, withholding tax, foreign tax credits, international tax treaties, profit shifting and tax avoidance. The unit emphasises business tax planning issues.
