Students complete the compulsory units for the Bachelor of International Studies. In place of elective units, students substitute Law units. Students should note that the units of study in Law cannot be counted as a major in the International Studies award course. At the end of third year, full-time students should have completed the requirements for their International Studies award course. An additional two years of study is required at the Law School where the remaining units for the LLB are completed.

Course rules for continuing students

Please Note. The following course rules are for students who are continuing students enrolled in FH032 (who enrolled in this course before 2008). All students who commenced this degree from 2008 (enrolled in DH055) should refer to the course rules outlined in the the Faculty of Arts handbook.

To be awarded the Bachelor of International Studies and the Bachelor of Laws, students must successfully complete a total of 240 credit points, comprising:

  • 10 compulsory units of study to be completed in the first three years of the combined program in the annual sequence as specified under Compulsory Law units of study
  • An additional 6 compulsory and 6 elective Law units of study to be completed over the remaining 2 years of the degree at the Law School. For details please refer to the Law Faculty Handbook or the Faculty of Law website.

Students commencing their combined degree in 2009 must complete the units of study in the yearly sequence indicated in the following information. Students who commenced their combined degree in 2006 and have only completed LAWS1006, LAWS1010 and LAWS1008 must complete the units of study in the yearly sequence indicated under Year 2 and Year 3 (excluding LAWS1019).

Please Note: Because of the nature of the combined program, prerequisites and other limitations, the available majors within the combined degree program are limited (Government and International Relations, International Business, and Political Economy).
