Students complete the major requirements for the Bachelor of Economic and Social Sciences. For the first three years of the combined degree program, in place of elective units, students substitute compulsory Law units of study. Students should note that the units of study in Law cannot be counted as a major in the Economic and Social Sciences award course. At the end of their third year, full-time students should have completed the requirements for the Economic and Social Sciences degree. An additional two years of study is required at the Law School where the remaining units for the Bachelor of Laws are completed.

From 2008 for commencing studies the Bachelor of Economic and Social Sciences and Bachelor of Laws will be administered by the Faculty of Arts. For details of this degree, please refer to the Faculty of Arts website.

Course rules for continuing students

Please Note. The following course rules are for students who are continuing students enrolled in FH026 (who enrolled in this course before 2008). All students who commenced this degree from 2008 (enrolled in DH053) should refer to the course rules outlined in the the Faculty of Arts handbook.

To be awarded the Bachelor of Economic and Social Sciences and Bachelor of Laws, students shall successfully complete a total of 240 credit points (96 credit points from the Faculties of Arts and Economics and Business and 144 credit points from the Faculty of Law), comprising:

  • 10 compulsory units of study to be completed in the first three years of the combined program in the annual sequence as specified below under the heading Compulsory Law units of study for the combined degree program
  • An additional 6 compulsory and 6 elective Law units of study to be completed over the remaining 2 years of the degree at the Law School. For details please refer to the Law Faculty Handbook or the Faculty of Law website

Law units of study for the combined degree program

Students beginning their combined degree in 2008 must complete the units of study in the yearly sequence indicated the following information. Students who commenced their combined degree in 2006/2007 and have only completed LAWS1006, LAWS1010 and LAWS1008 must complete the units of study in the yearly sequence indicated under Combined Law Year 2 and Combined Law Year 3

All students continuing under old resolutions (students commencing their Third Year and transfer students going into third year) must complete the following LAWS units of study according to the old resolutions.
