| Description | BEcSocScThis is a flexible award course which offers students the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of the social environment in which economic activity takes place. Majors in areas such as Political Economy, Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management, Government and International Relations, History and Sociology provide outstanding opportunities in personnel management and policy development. The Bachelor of Economic and Social Sciences suits students who are interested in the social and political context in which economic activity takes place, or who would like to minimise mathematical approaches. Please Note - Changes to degree offering from 2008From 2008 for commencing studies the Bachelor of Economic and Social Sciences and the Bachelor of Economic and Social Sciences (Honours) will be administered by the Faculty of Arts. | Course rules for continuing students | Please Note. The following course rules are for students who are continuing students enrolled in FH025 (who enrolled in this course before 2008). All students who commenced this degree from 2008 (enrolled in DH052) should refer to the course rules outlined in the the Faculty of Arts handbook To be awarded the Bachelor of Economic and Social Sciences (FH025), students shall successfully complete a total of 144 credit points, comprising:
Majors, extended majors and electivesStudents must complete a major in Economics (60 credit points - four junior + six senior units of study), Political Economy (48 credit points- two junior + six senior units of study), Government and International Relations (48 credit points - two junior + six senior units of study) or Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management (48 credit points - one junior + seven senior units of study). Alternatively students may complete an extended major in Economics (72 credit points - four junior + eight senior units), Government and International Relations (60 credit points - two junior + eight senior units), Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management (60 credit points - one junior + nine senior units) or Political Economy (60 credit points - two junior + eight senior units). If a major or extended major in Economics or Political Economy is chosen then students must either complete a major or a minimum of 12 senior credit points in either Government and International Relations or Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management. If a major or extended major in either Government and International Relations or Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management is chosen then students must also complete either a major or a minimum of 12 senior credit points in either Economics or Political Economy Students can also complete additional majors and electives from the Faculties of Economics and Business, Arts, Science, Education and Social Work or Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, or other faculties of the University of Sydney (subject to approval by the Faculty of Economics and Business). Students should check the particular requirements for individual majors in the information listing under the Undergraduate subject areas for majors and electives. If a major or electives are chosen from a subject area from another faculty, in most cases a minimum of 36 senior credit points must be completed. Students should refer to the relevant handbook for the other faculty for the exact requirements for the major they wish to complete. Please Note. The major or extended major students choose will determine whether they can complete an additional major in the degree. Due to prerequisites and other limitations not all combinations of majors are possible to be completed. A maximum of 60 credit points from outside the Faculty of Economics and Business maybe selected.
