Business Process Management Research Group
Business Process Management Research Group (BPMRG) at the Faculty of Economics & Business, The University of Sydney investigates the organizational, managerial and educational issues and implications related to the design, management and evaluation of organisational BPM (Business Process Management) initiatives. Taking a holistic view of business process management that includes strategy, people, business processes and systems, the research is aiming to bridge the gap between business and IT in business, government and non-profit organizations and assist them in effectively managing IT-enabled organizational process innovations.
With business process management listed as the top priority by Chief executives in Australia and Internationally, the research carried out by this group is at the forefront of new and innovative developments in the BPM field. With its participation in and affiliation with the Business Process Trends - an international body of business process practitioners, the leading French research institute LORIA/INRIA and the leading business process management research group at the Queensland University of Technology, this group's research also addresses the university's goal of increased focus on interdisciplinary capability and proactive engagement with industry and other academic institutions. The research carried out by this group thus addresses the faculty goal of 'developing stronger alliances with industry to improve and extend collaborative research activities' and will also "increase the opportunities for student engagement with industry."
This research group aims to provide thought leadership in Business Process Management through industry-based research, professional BPM practice and innovative education that is both led by research and confirmed in practice.
The key aims of this group are:
- To investigate the impact of various IT-enabled innovations on BPM and their implications for business organizations and
- To identify the drivers, structures and mechanisms required to mange the effective deployment of those innovations both within and across the organizations
- To develop theoretical models and frameworks to assist the business organizations in managing the business process life cycle from design to their governance.
- To impart process-centered thinking to business students through appropriate teaching and learning strategies that incorporate business process management tools and technologies.
- To design and provide research-led teaching in order to equip students with cutting edge knowledge and tools for managing the business processes of the future
