Mission
The mission of the Faculty of Economics and Business is to build and sustain the leading learning community in business, economics and public sector management in Australia and its region.
History
- Founded in 1920: the Faculty is one of the oldest of its kind in Australia.
- 1930: the first Bachelor degree offered - Bachelor of Economics.
- 1970: the first postgraduate coursework degree offered - Masters of Economics.
- 1999: with the appointment of Professor Peter Wolnizer as Dean, the Faculty of Economics embarked on a major strategic transformation
International accreditations
- Since April 2004: the dual AACSB accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business for Faculty's business and accounting programs - we are the only business school in Australia, and one of only five in the Asia-Pacific region, with this dual accreditation.
- Since November 2004: the EQUIS accreditation through the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).
Professional accreditations
- Since September 2005: the Joint CPA Australia and Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) accreditation for Faculty's accounting programs.
- Since July 2005: the Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI) accreditation for Faculty's industrial relations and human resource management award programs.
- Since May 2004: the Australian Computer Society (ACS) accreditation for Faculty's Business Information Systems majors.
International engagements
- In 2004 the Faculty co-founded the Association of Asia Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS).
- In 2006 the Faculty became the only Australian business school to be admitted to the Global Alliance in Management Education, previously known as the Community of European Management Schools, (CEMS).
- The Faculty, with its 55 distinguished exchange partner institutions from 27 countries around the world, offers an extensive range of exchange opportunities to its students and staff members.

Award programs
The Faculty offers an extensive range of undergraduate (Bachelor), postgraduate coursework (Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters), and postgraduate research (Master of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy) award programs. The Faculty is among the few in Australia offering specialist postgraduate programs in Transport and Logistics, Organisational Coaching, International Business, Innovation and Enterprise, or International Security. In 2009 the innovative and progressive Master of Management and Master of Management (CEMS) commenced. 2009 has also seen the launch of the First Global Executive MBA, which will commence in 2010 First Global EMBA.

Research
The Faculty has an outstanding reputation for the quality of its research across a wide range of academic disciplines and it is also one of the most successful business faculties in Australia and the region in attracting competitive research funding. Over the past ten years (1999-2008), our success has resulted in:
- Over AU$27 million in research grants.
- Almost 2,900 research publications (audited by DEEWR, not author-weighted).
- 14 in-house produced Faculty journals.
- 8 outstanding scholars elected Fellows of ASSA (the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia).
- Many Faculty academics are editors and members of editorial boards of leading international journals.
The postgraduate research programs offered by the Faculty attract a large number of quality local and international students each year. With 180 research students currently enrolled, the Faculty has one of the largest and most diverse higher degree by research programs in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
