Professor Peter Wolnizer, Dean

On behalf of all my colleagues, I have great pleasure in welcoming you as a student in the Faculty of Economics and Business at The University of Sydney. Founded 85 years ago, the Faculty has a rich history of intellectual endeavour. Today we have an outstanding reputation for diversity and excellence in teaching, learning and research, and are in a leading position among business and economics faculties in Australia.

We are part of a vibrant and international learning community incorporating academics, students, corporate partners, governments, schools, and other universities and research institutions. We equip our students educationally for a professionally rewarding and successful career in their chosen field of study, with many of our alumni holding senior positions in the business, professional and government communities within Australia and around the world.

The Faculty of Economics and Business is committed to providing a University education that is at the cutting edge of knowledge, is intellectually rigorous, and has contemporary and professional relevance. Our programs are informed by the most recent research findings; by best-practice teaching and learning techniques; by an understanding of business, government and management practices, both nationally and internationally; and through involvement of all our stakeholders.

The Faculty of Economics and Business is actively involved in quality assurance and accreditation activities. In April 2004 the Faculty’s business and accounting programs were accredited by AACSB International. We were also awarded an additional five years EQUIS accreditation through EFMD, the European Foundation for Management Development, in February 2008. We are the only institution in Australia to have achieved all three international accreditations.

In addition, the Faculty's industrial relations and human resource management programs are accredited by the Australian Human Resource Institute; our business information systems majors are accredited by the Australian Computer Society; and our accounting programs are jointly accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
